The Employment Law Compliance Bill 2008 - A Practical Guide

The Employment Law Compliance Bill 2008 was published on 18th March 2008 and at the date of writing, is working its way through the Houses of the Oireachtas with the intention of being enacted at some point in 2008. As part of the Towards 2016 negotiations, the Government agreed to come up with a method of ensuring greater compliance with Irish employment law amongst employers and to close loop holes that had allowed events such as the Irish Ferries' collective redundancy case and the GAMA construction case to happen in the past. Award of €25,000 plus Interest for Sexual Harassment by Phone

A female employee of a recruitment firm lodged a claim with the Equality Tribunal alleging that she was sexually harassed on a night out with work colleagues by her manager through text messages sent from his phone to hers. She further submitted that once she complained of this to her employer, she was dismissed. The Equality Officer found in favour of the Complainant and awarded her €25,000, plus interest from the date the claim was lodged. More...
