Launch of the Health and Safety Authority's Annual Report for 2007

The Minister for Labour Affairs, Mr Billy Kelleher, launched the Health and Safety Authority's Annual Report for 2007 and the Statistics Report for 2006/2007 on 24th June 2008. The Minister noted that there were almost 14,000 inspections carried out by Authority Inspectors in 2007 and commented that he believed face-to-face contact with the Inspectors is a powerful influencer on health and safety in any organisation. Employee Loses Case for Discrimination in Promotion Appointment

This case concerns a claim that the Complainant was directly and indirectly discriminated against on the grounds of gender and family status when the Respondent did not permit her to retain her existing reduced working hours on promotion. The Equality Officer found that the Respondent made a successful case for the necessity of the particular post-holder being in the workplace for at least four days per week in light of the duties and responsibilities attaching to the post.
