This one-day workshop considers approaches and techniques for the day-to-day management of attendance, time-keeping and absenteeism. Managing absence is one of the most critical issues for organisations to improve productivity and reduce costs. This workshop is targeted at people managers to enable them to understand and address absence issues and get employees back to work. It also provides effective tools to support managers in dealing with this costly issue.

Session Outline:

Measuring Absenteeism
Understanding the most common types of absenteeism, and likely causes. Evaluating your teams’ absenteeism problems and patterns.

The Legal Framework
The legal issues in managing absence, including disability and disciplinary considerations.

Strategies for Managing Absenteeism
How to manage different types of absenteeism. Managing short term absence vs. long term absence. The relevance of medical reports and obligations to provide alternative work. When is disciplinary action appropriate?

Skills Practice

An opportunity to practice a ‘Return to work interview’.
This workshop is also available on an in-house basis, and the content can be customised to take account of your organisation's own Attendance Policy.
