Workshop Content
This half-day workshop addresses issues and questions in relation to contracts of employment. HR professionals and people managers will learn how to issue legally-compliant contracts, identify the minimum legal requirements, and provide a framework for managing conditions of employment. The aims of this session are as follows:
- To consider the minimum legal requirements for contracts of employment
- To understand the implications of the Protection of Employees (Fixed-Term Work) Act, 2003
- To consider additional discretionary terms of employment
- To provide an approach to implementing contracts of employment and initiating contract changes

Contracts of Employment
Overview of the minimum legal requirements for contracts, and the nature
and type of expressed and implied terms.
Fixed-Term and Specific-Purpose Contracts
Details and implications of the Protection of Employees (Fixed-Term Workers)
Act, 2003, and review of recent case law.
Specific types of Contracts and Clauses
What is legally required and best practice in relation to probationary periods,
medicals, sick leave, part-time workers, etc.
Implementation
Issuing contracts for existing staff. Implications of amending terms and
conditions of employment.
