Aims of Course:
The course is designed to enable the learner to gain an in depth understanding of the role and function of management in a business environment, and to develop effective management skills. Delegates who successfully complete this course will be able to:

The Internal Organisation
- Distinguish between different types of organisations
- Explain why organisations must adapt to change and describe ways in which organisations can manage this change
- Construct a SWOT analysis
The External Environment
- Distinguish between macro and micro environments and construct a PEST analysis
The Management Process
- Outline the functions of management and the roles which managers perform
- Develop the skill to manage people and explain the purpose of feedback mechanisms
- Outline the purpose of managing finance and distinguish between budgetary and non-budgetary forms of control
- Critically evaluate project management techniques
- Explain the purpose of planning and identify a planning model
Human Behaviour
- Explain four theories of human behaviour
- Distinguish between different leadership styles
- Distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic motivational techniques
Human Resource Management
- Prepare a job specification and candidate profile for the recruitment process
- Conduct an interview to select or appraise an employee
- Gain an understanding of Irish Employment Law and the Legal Framework
- Evaluate performance appraisal techniques
- Identify cases of conflict and solutions to resolve conflict issues
- Evaluate staff development needs and training
Management Skills
- Develop report writing skills and compile a sample report for senior management
- Develop time management skills
- Assess the advantages of electronic communication, email and internet
- Critically evaluate and supervise the performance of an individual or group
