Workshop Content
This one-day workshop is designed to develop a designated contact person with the knowledge and skills that are required for the role. It provides the delegate with a clear understanding of the role under the heading of dignity and respect at work. It explores the recommendations made by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment and the Health & Safety Authority, and how this impacts on the scope of this role and the boundaries that apply.
Session Outline:
Role of the Contact Person
Defines the role and the responsibilities of the contact person. Outlines
the complaints procedure, both informal and formal. Assesses methods for
effectively handling an issue or providing advice.
Harassment and Bullying
Reviews the legal background to harassment, sexual harassment and bullying
in the workplace, exploring employer responsibilities under employment equality
and health & safety legislation. Identifies what behaviours constitute
harassment, sexual harassment and bullying.
Dignity at Work Policy & Procedure
Outlines the requirements for an effective policy and procedure. Considers
the responsibility of employers and employees.
The Meeting – Handling and Approach
Explains the practical considerations for managing 1:1 meetings. Provides
an understanding of effective communication skills for handling sensitive
issues.
Skills Practice
Allows the participant to practice and review individual interviewing skills
through role play. Enables the participant to apply strategies for dealing
with the complainant, alleged perpetrator(s), witnesses and difficult interviewees.
This workshop is also available on an in-house basis, and the content can
be customised to take account of the organisation's own Dignity at Work
policy.
