Launch of a Code of Practice on Information and Consultation – April '08

The Minister for Labour Affairs, Mr. Billy Kelleher launched a Code of Practice on the Employees (Provision of Information and Consultation) Act, 2006 in March 2008. The purpose of the Code is to assist employers, employees and their representatives to establish effective arrangements for information and consultation in the workplace which are in line with the provisions of the Act.

The Act sets out the minimum requirements for the right to information and consultation of employees in organisations with at least 50 employees. It aims to ensure that information and consultation is provided in a systematic fashion by employers so that employees can reach an informed understanding of the challenges faced by, and future development of, the organisation

Mr. Kelleher stated at the launch that the Code seeks to provide user-friendly and practical information on implementing the Act and complements a Guidance Booklet which the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment published in 2007.

Both the Code of Practice and the Explanatory Booklet are available on the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment website (www.entemp.ie).
