Appointment of National Employment Rights Authority (NERA) Advisory Board – April '08
Mr. Billy Kelleher, Minister for Labour Affairs announced the appointment of the members of an Advisory Board for the National Employment Rights Authority (NERA) on Monday 14th April. The Advisory Board is being established on an interim basis in advance of the likely enactment of the Employment Law Compliance Bill, 2008 later this year.
The main functions of the Board, which are set out in the Bill, include advising NERA on:
- Issues relating to compliance with, and enforcement of, employment legislation, including the provision of information;
- The Authority’s work programme and strategy statement;
- Delivery of a high standard of customer service;
- Proposals for research and surveys.
The Bill states that the Advisory Board will have no function in relation to individual cases in which NERA is involved.
The Chair of the Board is Mr. John Dennehy, former public representative, and members of the Board include:
Minister’s nominees:
- Ms Stella Skowronska, language course coordinator and teacher;
- Mr John Walsh, former Asst. Secretary, Dept of Enterprise, Trade & Employment.
Persons nominated by organisations representative of employees:
- Ms Patricia King, SIPTU;
- Ms Linda Tanham, Mandate;
- Mr Owen Wills, TEEU.
Persons nominated by organisations representative of employers:
- Ms Mary Cryan, Brown Thomas Group;
- Mr John Flanagan, Educational Building Society;
- Mr Eddie Keenan, Construction Industry Federation.
The Minister will also make one further nomination to the board in coming weeks.
